Aggravated Assault on Officer – 600 block Jamestown– 7/1/16, 7:00 pm

Officers responded to Candlestick Park on a call of over twenty vehicles engaging in drag racing. The officers arrived to find multiple vehicles, one of which was doing “donuts”. They attempted to pull the car over and in doing so, became surrounded by several suspects who actively attempted to prevent them from conducting their traffic stop. The officers got out of their patrol car and issued orders to the suspects, who failed to comply. One of the officers began to chase one of the combatants but in looking back, saw his partner surrounded by three subjects. He returned as the suspects closed in on the officer while threatening to “knock him out” as he attempted to verbally diffuse the situation. The biggest of the tree suspects, with clenched fists, approached the officer as if to strike him at which point the officer’s partner intervened and physically attempted to subdue the suspect. Both officers fought for their safety, but as they were outnumbered by nearly 30 subjects, lost custody of the suspect when he was helped by others. The suspect was loaded into one of the cars that drove off along with all the other “side show” participants. One of the cars deliberately drove at one of the officers, swerving several times in an attempt to strike him as he tried to move out of the way. He was fortunately able to leap out of its way as it approached the exit gate. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 160534389)
