Bayview Newsletter 4-29-15

Captain’s Message:

Hello from Bayview Police Station!   My name is Raj Vaswani and I am the new Captain here at Bayview.    I want to congratulate Commander O’Sullivan for his promotion; I know he served the Bayview for a long time and was very well liked.    I hope to build on the relationships he made.

I know many of the supervisors, officers, and managers that work here at Bayview.   I can tell you that this is a very active station and we get ‘cream of the crop’ officers.   I used to work at the old Potrero Station on 20th Street when I was a new officer in the early 90s, so coming back here as a Captain is very special to me.

My background is 20+ years in policing.   I have worked as an officer at Potrero (now Bayview), Southern Station, Northern Station, and specifically the Northern Station Street Crimes Undercover Unit.   I was promoted while at Northern Station then worked 8 years in Investigation Bureau as an Inspector.   I transferred to Ingleside and Southern as a patrol supervisor.   I went back to Investigations in the mid-2000s and worked on Burglary/Cold DNA cases.   I was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the Mission District.   I have also held positions working closely with the Command Staff; in the Administration Bureau, I worked on special projects such as Police HQ building, the Sixth Street Substation, and business legislation/ permitting.   While at the Hall of Justice, I eventually became the Commanding Officer of the Legal Division and was the Department’s liaison to the City Attorney’s Office for civil litigation, arbitration/mediation in Federal Court, and dealing with policy matters.

My last assignment was the Commanding Officer of Park Police Station.  I absolutely loved the support from my Officers and Community there.    I am honored to be your Police Captain and take the responsibilities of this position very seriously.    I have already checked out a marked police car and started to visit the neighborhoods personally.   I have started to meet with community leaders and as I get settled, I’m looking forward to meeting more.   I’m committed to be responsive and will try my best to address your policing needs.

Please visit me at my 1st Community Meeting on Tuesday, May 5th at Bayview Station!
