On April 9th at 4:45 pm, officers responded to a call of an auto boost that occurred in the area of Felton and Amherst. They met with the victim, a postal worker, who stated that he had returned to his parked work vehicle and noticed that one of the windows had been broken. He then observed a subject nearby whose attention was drawn to a cell phone that he was holding. The victim recognized the cell phone as his own and also observed that the subject was holding the victim’s lunchbox. Both cell phone and lunch box had been in the victim’s car when he parked it. The victim confronted the suspect at which point the suspect dropped the stolen items and took off running. The officers searched the area and located the suspect hiding in some bushes in the area of University and Burrows. He was positively identified and taken into custody. The suspect was cited and released from the scene. (SFPD Case No. 150310832)

A record check revealed that the car had been reported as stolen. The subject in the driver’s seat of the stolen vehicle got out and attempted to distance himself from the car before the officers took him into custody. A search of his person revealed multiple counterfeit bills in $50 and $100 denominations. The suspect was booked on auto theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of counterfeit money at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 150252886)

Carjacking Attempt Arrest:

On April 11th at 11:50 pm, officers responded to the 1300 block of Palou on a call of multiple suspects surrounding a vehicle in the middle of the street while beating on the car and attempting to gain entry. The arriving officers located the three suspects, who matched the broadcast description, near the victim vehicle. The officers detained two of the suspects without incident while the third suspect took off running. He got behind a parked mini bus and threw down a metallic object that clanked when it contacted the ground. He then came out from behind the vehicle and complied with the officers’ commands. The item that he discarded was recovered and tuned out to be a BB gun. The 41 year old driver of the victim vehicle told the officers that she had come to a stop at Keith and Palou when the suspects surrounded her car. One of the suspects managed to get into the passenger seat while another opened the driver’s door and attempted to yank her out of her vehicle. She positively identified all of the suspects who were subsequently taken into custody. The suspects stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone before getting into a waiting dark colored sedan that sped from the scene.
