Carjacking, Firearm Arrest:

On March 25th at 1:24 pm, officers patrolling in the area of Bayshore and Jerrold spotted a vehicle driving in the area whose description and license plate matched that of a car that had been carjacked half an hour earlier during an armed robbery that occurred on the 100 block of Shakespeare in the Taraval district. Both the driver and the passenger matched the broadcast suspect descriptions and were reported to be armed. The officers approached the vehicle as it was stopped at the intersection.

On seeing the officers, the driver immediately revved the engine and quickly accelerated in the direction of the approaching officers. They were able to jump out of the way as the suspect’s vehicle plowed into their patrol car with such force that the unit was dragged into a different position on the roadway. The suspect then made a U-Turn and drove off at high rate of speed with complete disregard for other drivers and pedestrians.

The officers got back into their damaged car and gave chase, spotting the suspects turn onto the unit block of Toland, where they abruptly stopped the car and bailed out. The suspects ducked in between parked vehicles before commencing into a full sprint down the street. One of the suspects was seen dropping a bag as he ran. After both suspects were successfully apprehended by the officers with the assistance of back up units, a 9mm handgun was located jammed in the tire well of a parked vehicle where the suspects had been seen ducking behind. The bag that had been discarded was recovered and turned out to contain a camera that had been stolen into the original robbery. The suspects, ages 18 and 17 were booked at Bayview Station and the Juvenile Justice Center respectively on multiple charges that included carjacking, aggravated assault, weapons violations, and conspiracy.
