Auto Theft Arrest:

On November 24th at 8:15 am, officers were patrolling in the area of Underwood and Lane, a location often used as a dumping ground for stolen vehicles. They noticed a car that was suspiciously parked with a license plate that came back to an address in the Mission District. On closer observation the officers found that the car was unlocked and that the ignition appeared to have been tampered with. The officers had a Mission unit make contact with the registered owner of the vehicle and learned that the car had been stolen overnight. They stayed in the area in a position of concealment for a short time until a suspect approached the vehicle and started to get in. He was detained and when questioned, could not answer regarding whom the vehicle belonged to. The suspect, a known local auto thief, was placed under arrest. The officers located a shaved key (used by car thieves to start vehicles) on his person. The suspect was booked on auto theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools charges at Bayview Station. (SFPD Case No. 140994305)
