November 12, 2014 Update

Firearm Arrest:

On November 10th at 7:20 pm, officers responded on a call of a suspect with a gun on the unit block of Middlepoint. As they searched the area they located a front door to a unit that was wide open. They saw two subjects inside. One was on his knees making the sign of the cross as the other stood beside him. Both subjects looked frightened. The officers walked up and asked if anyone inside called the police. Neither subject replied. The officers walked into the apartment to ensure everyone inside was alright and spotted a third subject seated on a couch with his hand holding onto to something in his waistband. The officers asked if any of the subjects lived there and were told that none of them did. The suspect on the couch appeared to be attempting to shove whatever he was holding in his waistband further down his pants. The officers asked him to stand and he refused. Fearing that they may have come upon a crime in progress and that the suspect on the couch was armed, the officers conducted a pat search of his person. A loaded 9mm handgun was located in the suspect’s waistband. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle. During this time, the subject that the officers saw on his knees fled the scene and could not be located for a statement. The suspect was booked at Bayview Station on weapons charges. This incident is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 140954309)

On November 10th at 9:53 pm, officers responded to the 1000 block of Palou on a call of shots fired. They located numerous spent bullet casings in the street and two parked vehicles that had been hit by gunfire. The officers secured the crime scene and searched the area for any possible victims and additional damage but were unable to locate any. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, which is under investigation. (SFPD Case No. 140954553)

 Auto Theft Arrest:

On November 11th at 9:29 am, officers stopped a car for making a prohibited left turn at Girard and Silver. They contacted the driver and learned through a record check that his license was suspended. Further, the record check of the license plate revealed that it was registered to a different make and model of car. The officers conducted a check of the VIN and discovered that the vehicle had been reported as stolen. The suspect was placed under arrest and was booked at Bayview Station on auto theft and possession of stolen property charges. (SFPD Case No. 130248554)

 Robbery Arrest:

On November 8th at 10:10 pm, a 65 year old victim was robbed on the 600 block of Hamilton. He told the responding officers that he had parked his taxi cab near his house and unloaded a duffel bag from the trunk, setting it by his front door, when two suspects approached him from behind. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and ordered him to give up his belongings. The suspect grabbed the victim’s duffel bag while the other grabbed the keys that the victim was holding. The victim began to scream for help, at which point the suspects both ran off on foot. The officers searched the area for the suspects but were unable to locate them that night. They were, however, able to obtain video footage that captured the incident. They were able to identify one of the suspects after reviewing the video.

On November 11th at 2:40 pm, officers patrolling in the area of the Alice Griffith Housing Development located the suspect on the unit block of Cameron. He was placed under arrest and booked at Bayview Station on robbery charges. (SFPD Case No. 140948346)

 Armed Robbery Arrest:

On November 11th at 9:35 pm, two victims, ages 35 and 53, were robbed at gunpoint at Mendell and Hudson. They told the responding officers that they were approached by three suspects as they walked. One of the suspects brandished a knife while another produced a gun and pointed it at them. The victims were asked their gang affiliation and when they responded that they had none, the suspects went through their pockets. One of the victims had his cell phone stolen before the suspects fled on foot. A witness to the incident followed the suspects at a distance and called the police. The responding officers located and detained two of the three suspects at Evans and Mendell. The suspects were positively identified and placed under arrest. The officers searched the path that the suspects took after the robbery and discovered a discarded BB gun at Hudson and Newhall. The 17 and 15 year old suspects were booked at the Juvenile Justice Center on armed robbery and conspiracy charges. An investigation into the identity of the third suspect is ongoing.
